In an update to representatives, Adejumobi, director of Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Outcomes, said the organization has chosen to focus on macroeconomic policy and development financing as it continues to support macroeconomic policy and development financing, regional integration, diversification and industrialization, infrastructure, technology, technology, innovation and connectivity, and climate countries.
He noted that strategic interventions were carried out through policy-based knowledge, consensus building and technical advisory services.
Several member states also received policy support “in order to “enhance the ability to identify illegal activities in taxable areas, to clarify illegal financial flows, to enhance the financial capacity of local governments, to promote financial sustainability, and to strengthen the capacity to advance the modernization of African cities.”
We were conducting feasibility studies of guaranteed facilities and alternative financing options. “We also supported many member states to reform the legal and regulatory frameworks in the financial sector.”
The UN agency also continued to support the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area. “In 2024, we developed a strategy from five countries and have supported a total of 37 countries so far.
“We have also supported 14 member states to develop green supplements for the country's AFCFTA strategy,” reported Adejumobi, adding that UNECA's work will help some countries align their country's industrialization policies with sub-regional strategies.
Additionally, UNECA has developed a set of regional value chain programs for implementation from 2025 to 2027. It also helped the country not only update its national development plans, but also strengthen its ability to track progress on SDGS and Agenda 2063 and integrate them into the national development plans.
At the global stage, the ECA took part in advocating for reforms in global financial architecture at Africa's high-level working groups and future summits. He also supports South Africa in his role as G20 chair.
